HOLD THE DATE for a new event highlighting Scottish Wool to take place at Ardgay Public Hall, Carron Place, Ardgay.
Program updates:
*Panel Discussion*: the Micro-Mill Movement. In the journey to sustainability, ‘local’ is key – and that’s true of the wool industry too. Reversing the trend toward centralization and the ‘bigger is better’ outlook, the micro mill movement works with local farmers and crafters to ensure traceability, quality, fair returns to producers, and lower transport miles on the finished product. During this talk, you’ll meet representatives of the three (at this writing) micro-mills that have started processing local wool since 2022: Pamela Watson/Mill of Kintyre, Emma Duncan/Creation Mill Langholm, and Donna Gillies/Highland Wool. Host and Time tbd.
*Hands On* Do you have a beloved woolen item that’s getting a bit tattered? Bring it to our mending table, and Marieke will help on your journey of learning how to mend it and other woolen items.
*Feedback Sought*
What do you think is needed, to support a sustainable wool industry in Scotland? You’ll be able to share your thoughts at the Highland Wool stall, and we’ll make sure your ideas are put in front of our elected representatives.
*Event* on the Friday before the fest (18 Sept), The Kyle of Sutherland Hub will incorporate wool crafting into their Youth Club. More info soon…
*Callout* for vendors who produce yarn or other items that are (mostly) made from wool grown in Scotland. We have a limited number of table stalls available, the cost is £20 for the day. Send an email to info@highlandwool.com, with a short description of your product, to receive a booking form.
The Ardgay Hall is located just across the street from the Ardgay rail station and a bus stop with connections to Inverness. There is also local parking. The Hall cafe will be open that day, as will the cafe at the Kyle Hub.
